Complaint: Man with gun strapped on his side standing out side of residence - Laurel County, KY

Laurel County, Ky. - Sheriff John Root is reporting that Deputy Kyle Gray along with Deputy Andrew Lawson and Bailiff Travis Napier and CSO Roy Ball assisted by Constable Bobby Joe Smith arrested Carroll Smith, Jr Saturday night May 9, 2015 at approximately 11:55 P.M.

The arrest occurred off Ky 3434 approximately 6 miles north of London after deputies responded to a complaint of a male subject with a gun strapped on his side standing out side of a residence where he had been told by the home owner to not be back on that property.

When deputies arrived at the scene and contacted the home owner, they learned that the male subject had left just prior to deputies arrival.

Deputies learned that the male subject had allegedly went to a metal building next door so deputies conducted a search in the immediate vicinity and were given consent by the owner of the metal building to search it where deputies located the male suspect hiding in a bed in the back bedroom.

Deputies also located a Ruger 9 mm handgun there.

Deputies learned through investigation that this subject was a convicted felon. In addition, deputies located Suboxone pills on the suspect who admitted taking several pills earlier.

Carroll Smith, Jr was charged with criminal trespassing – second degree; possession of a handgun by a convicted felon; receiving stolen property – firearm; possession of a controlled substance – second degree; and public intoxication – controlled substances.

Carroll Smith, Jr was lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.
