Knox County, KY Shooting on May 9, 2015

(Barbourville, Ky.) On Saturday May 9, 2015 at 12:19 a.m. Kentucky State Police, Post 10 Harlan received a call from the Knox County Dispatch requesting troopers to respond to Cougar Edge Road in the Barbourville community of Knox County.

Upon trooper’s arrival, it was discovered that Edward Mason had been shot in the back by Maxine Patterson of Barbourville.

Preliminary investigation indicates that the incident occurred after Mr. Mason and Mrs. Patterson's daughter, Becky Grubbs, had been in an altercation.

Mr. Mason was transported by ambulance to Knox County Hospital and then flown to the University of Tennessee Medical Center where he is listed in serious but stable condition at this time.

No arrests were made.

This case will be taken to the Knox County Grand Jury. Detective Jacob Wilson is continuing the investigation.
