(Wallins Creek, KY) May 26, 2015 – A single-vehicle collision on Highway 219 in Wallins has left one teen injured and a residence with damage. Kentucky State Police Post 10 received the call for assistance at 5:15 p.m.
The preliminary investigation into the crash by Trooper Rodney Sturgill indicates that a 17 year-old male juvenile of Dayhoit was traveling on Highway 219 in a 2001 Ford Mustang. He entered a curve and lost control of his vehicle. Unable to regain control, the vehicle left the traveled portion of the roadway and struck a residence belonging to Mary Jump, which was located just beyond the curve.
A 17 year-old female passenger was transported by Harlan EMS to Harlan Appalachian Regional Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The operator of the vehicle was uninjured. Both were wearing their safety belts. Ms. Jump and her son, who were in the residence at the time of the impact, were not injured.
The vehicle received severe damage. The home sustained minor damage, but remained occupied.
Trooper Sturgill continues his investigation into this crash. He was assisted on scene by Trooper Danny Caudill and members of the Wallins Volunteer Fire Department.
