(Booneville, KY) — The Kentucky State Police, Richmond Post, is investigating a fatal single motorcycle accident that happened just after 2:30 p.m. Wednesday on KY 30 in Owsley County.
The initial investigation indicates that William L. Atherton, 67 years old of Louisville KY, was traveling west bound on KY 30 on his 2015 Harley Davidson motorcycle, when he lost control left the roadway and struck an embankment.
Both Atherton and his passenger, Julia W. Atherton 65 years old of Louisville KY, were ejected from the motorcycle.
The operator and passenger were initially air lifted to University of Kentucky Hospital. William Atherton was diverted to Baptist Health in Richmond KY, where he succumbed to his injuries. Julia Atherton is listed as stable at the University of Kentucky Hospital.
The ongoing investigation is being conducted by Trooper Austin Brashear. He was assisted at the scene by KSP Personnel, Owsley County EMS, and Owsley County Fire & Rescue.
