(LONDON, KY.) – On Tuesday, June 09, 2015 at approximately 11:25 PM, Kentucky State Police Post 11, London received a report of a single-vehicle traffic crash involving a pedestrain on Wilburn K. Ross HWY in the Stearns community of McCreary County.
Upon arrival, Trooper Wendell Higginbotham determined that a 1999 Chevrolet Impala operated by Shawn Smith, 21, of Stearns, KY was traveling westbound in a dark unlit section of the highway when he struck Mickey A. Hatfield, 27, of Revelo, KY which was walking in the westbound direction.
Hatfield was pronounced dead at the scene by the McCreary County Coroners Office. The body was transported to the Kentucky Medical Examiners Office where an autopsy has been scheduled.
Alcohol or drug use is not suspected.
Trooper Higginbotham is in charge of the investigation and was assisted at the scene by Trooper Eric Moore, McCreary County Sheriff’s Office, Whitley City Fire Department and McCreary County EMS,
