Shoplifting and other charges - Laurel County



Laurel County, Ky. - Sheriff John Root is reporting that Deputy Larry Parrott along with Sgt. Robbie Grimes arrested two individuals at Walmart near Corbin in southern Laurel County after Walmart's loss prevention team detained the pair on Wednesday afternoon July 1, 2015 at approximately 3:58 P.M.

When deputies arrived at the scene and conducted an investigation they learned that these two subjects had allegedly been observed concealing items and attempting to leave the store without paying for the items.

In addition, as the male subject was being led to the police car he created a disturbance by yelling obscenities where many shoppers were present.

John Vanover age 25 of Highway 26, Williamsburg was charged with theft by unlawful taking – shoplifting and disorderly conduct – second-degree. In addition, this subject was charged on a Whitley County warrant of arrest charging receiving stolen property regarding the alleged theft of jewelry valued at $6000. This subject was also charged on a Whitley County bench warrant of arrest for failure to appear in court regarding a charge of theft by unlawful taking.

Also arrested was Crystal Reeves age 28 of Hattie Lambdin Rd., Williamsburg charged with theft by unlawful taking – shoplifting and public intoxication – controlled substances. This subject was determined to be under the influence.

Both individuals were lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.
