Trooper Saves Woman from Flood Waters / Clay County

(LONDON, KY.) – On Friday, July 03, 2015 at approximately 11:55 PM, Trooper Jarrod Smith was on routine patrol in Clay County when he received a call about a woman whose vehicle became stranded in high flood waters on Jarvis Hollow RD.

Upon arrival, Trooper Smith observed the vehicle approximately 40 feet off the roadway in floodwaters that had reached the headlights. The lone female inside the vehicle was yelling for help and was unable to exit her vehicle. Fearing that the vehicle might be swept away in the rapidly rising water, Trooper Smith, with the help of Clay County Deputy Sheriff Jeremy Garrison, tied a rope around himself and waded out into the water and safely got the female out of her vehicle and back to the roadway.

Neither Trooper Smith nor the female were injured during the rescue.

Trooper Smith is a six year veteran with the Kentucky State Police and is a native of Clay County.
