Man injured in Blackmont wreck

(Blackmont, KY) – A Harlan County man has sustained multiple injuries following a collision on KY 72 in the Blackmont Community of Bell County. Kentucky State Police Trooper Taylor Mills was on routine patrol around 4:30 p.m. when he came upon the wreck.

According to the preliminary investigation, Jerry W. Collett, 59, of Coldiron was traveling eastbound on KY 72 when he lost control of his 1972 Pontiac Lemans striking a rock wall. Mr. Collett was transported to Pineville Community Hospital and then airlifted to UT Medical Center in Knoxville, Tenn. His condition is unknown at the time of this release. A passenger in the vehicle, Sarah Daniels, 29, of Wallins Creek, KY was uninjured. Neither occupant of the vehicle were wearing their safety belts.

Investigation into this collision continues by Mills. He was assisted on scene by KSP Lt. Randy Surber and troopers George Howard and Rodney Sturgill.
