KSP Investigates Fatal Collision in Garrard County

(Lancaster, KY) — The Kentucky State Police, Richmond Post, is investigating a fatal collision that happened just before 12:30 p.m. Wednesday on Highway 27 in Garrard County.

Sharon B. Collins, 65 years old of Nicholasville, was operating a 2005 Silver Mazda Tribute east on HWY 34, and collided with a semi-truck trailer that was traveling south on HWY 27, operated by Darrick Decker, 41 years old of Beechmont, KY. The initial investigation indicates that Collins struck the semi-trailer after she failed to stop at a red light. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the collision at this time.

Sharon Collins was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Garrard County Coroner.

Two passengers that were in the 2005 Mazda Tribute at the time of the collision were transported to the University of Kentucky Hospital. The driver of the semi-truck was uninjured.

The ongoing investigation is being conducted by Trooper Charles Brandenburg. He was assisted at the scene by KSP Personnel, Garrard County EMS, Garrard County Fire & Rescue, Garrard County Sheriff’s Office, and the Garrard County Coroner.
