Theft of items from a car in Laurel County result in 3 arrests

Laurel County. KY - Sheriff John Root is reporting that Deputy Josh Scott along with Deputy Shawn Boroviak and Deputy Keith Dinsmore arrested three individuals on Saturday afternoon August 15, 2015 at approximately 12:19 PM at a motel in southern Laurel County after being dispatched there to investigate a theft of items from a vehicle.

When deputies arrived at the scene they learned that a male subject had allegedly been observed breaking into a BMW at that belonged to the victim.

As deputies continued to investigate they learned that some items taken from the victim's vehicle were laying in plain view in a vehicle parked in front of the suspect's room. Deputies found three subjects inside the room there.

In addition, other items that had been stolen from the victim's BMW were also found inside the room occupied by the 3 suspects. Deputy Scott also determined that apparently one of the subjects had used a screwdriver in an attempt to break the key switch on the victim's car – a bent screwdriver was found in the suspect's possession.

All three subjects in the room were arrested and are identified as:

- Michael Garland age 44 of Hwy. 779, Rockhold, KY charged with receiving stolen property under $500; theft by unlawful taking – contents from vehicle under $500; theft by unlawful taking – $500 or more – auto; and possession of burglary tools – additional charges are pending on this subject.

- Roy Higgins age 38 of Falls St., London charged with receiving stolen property under $500.

- Megan Patterson age 28 of East Essex Rd., Corbin charged with receiving stolen property under $500. This subject was also charged on a Laurel County bench warrant of arrest for failure to appear in court on a charge of public intoxication – controlled substances.

The suspects were driving a white colored Chrysler – stolen property was recovered from inside this vehicle.

All three subjects were lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.
