Six year old discovered in possession of marijuana at a Knox County elementary school

Knox County, KY - On October 13, 2015 at 10:00 A.M. Sheriff Mike Smith, Deputy Carl Frith responded a report of a six year old child discovered to be in possession of marijuana by school officials at the Dewitt Elementary School.

After meeting with school officials and conducting an investigation, Sheriff Smith and Deputy Frith began attempting to locate the mother of the child. Several attempts were made, but the mother could not be located.

When school let out, the officers followed the school bus back to the residence, where they located the mother. A search of the residence was conducted. The search led to a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia being found inside the home.

The mother, Ashley Edwards age 28 of Flat Lick, KY, was arrested and charged with Endangering the Welfare of a Minor, Possession of Marijuana and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

She was lodged in the Knox County Detention Center. The child was released to a family member by the Department of Social Services.
