Organized Crime arrests in Laurel County

Laurel County, KY - Sheriff John Root is reporting that Deputy Josh Scott assisted by Deputy Brandon Broughton and Deputy Rick Cloyd arrested five individuals on Wednesday afternoon October 14, 2015 at approximately 3:49 P.M.

The arrests occurred at Walmart and at Walmarts parking lot near Corbin in southern Laurel County after Deputy Scott was dispatched to a complaint that Walmart's loss prevention team had detained one suspect.

When Deputy Scott arrived at the scene and conducted an investigation he learned that a female subject identified as Ella Bowman had allegedly been observed concealing merchandise and attempting to leave the store without paying for the items.

As deputies continued their investigation, they determined that Ella Bowman had allegedly been observed making several trips in and out of Walmart to a green colored vehicle in the parking lot.

Deputies located four subjects in that vehicle and determined through investigation that apparently Ella Bowman was shoplifting items inside Walmart, bringing items to the vehicle, bagging shoplifted items into new Walmart bags (from a stack of new Walmart bags found in the vehicle), and apparently taking those items back inside Walmart attempting to return the items and receive a gift card in exchange.

Also some of the individuals in the vehicle gave false names to deputies in an attempt to avoid arrest on outstanding warrants.
