Kentucky Man Wanted for Attempted Murder of Police Officer Killed in Exchange of Gunfire with Police

(Burkesville, KY.) – The Kentucky State Police is reporting that at approximately 12:21 A.M. CST, Post 15 received communication from units at the search site that shots had been fired.

During the course of searching an embankment near a residence on KY 61 approximately 7 miles south of Burkesville, 2 KSP Troopers and 1 U.S. Marshall encountered Floyd Ray Cook.

Cook had a handgun and gunfire was exchanged.

Cook was wounded and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Cumberland County Coroner.

No officers were injured.
