Fatal crash in Knox County

(Flat Lick, Ky.) – On November 9, 2015 at 5:24 a.m. Kentucky State Police, Post 10 Harlan was contacted about fatal collision on U.S.25E in the Flat Lick community of Knox County. Trooper Wayne Hensley responded to the collision and began an investigation.

Preliminary Investigation indicates that a 1996 Chevrolet pick-up truck, operated by Charles Lawson, 49, of Arjay was traveling north on U.S.25E when he drove off the shoulder of the roadway and lost control of the vehicle. The passenger’s side of the vehicle struck a telephone pole, coming to rest against a guardrail.

The passenger in the vehicle, Malinda Lawson, 44, of Arjay was pronounced dead at the scene by the Knox County Coroner, Mike Blevins.

The driver, Mr. Lawson was transported to Pineville Hospital for minor injuries.

Drugs or alcohol are not suspected. Also both individuals were wearing seatbelts at the time of the collisions.

Collision is still under investigation by Tpr. Wayne Hensley. He was assisted at the scene by Flat Lick Fire Department.
