Serious injury crash on KY 490 in Laurel County

Laurel County, KY - Sheriff John Root is reporting that Deputy Shawn Jackson along with Deputy Brandon Broughton investigated a single vehicle serious injury traffic crash on Sunday night, November 15, 2015, at approximately 9:44 PM.

The investigating deputies report that apparently, a 2006 Toyota Matrix was westbound on Highway 490 traveling at a high rate of speed when he lost control of the vehicle crossing the center line into the oncoming lane of travel and struck a tree head-on.

The driver was identified as Steven Lawson, age 34, of Money Rd., East Bernstadt – this subject was trapped in the wreckage and had to be extricated by the London Laurel County Rescue squad.

This subject was flown from the scene by PHI medical helicopter to UK Medical Center for treatment of injuries.

Assisting at the scene of the crash was: Ambulance Inc. of Laurel County, Crossroads Volunteer Fire department, Fish and Wildlife officer Rich Waite, Trooper Jason McCowan, and Constable Bobby Smith.
