Man wanted for sexual abuse of a child and a multitude of other charges captured in Laurel County after fleeing police in a stolen vehicle

Laurel County, KY - Sheriff John Root is reporting that Constable Bobby Joe Smith along with Laurel County Sheriff's deputies assisted by London City Police officers arrested Joshua Caldwell age 31 White Oak Road, London on Wednesday evening, November 25, 2015 at approximately 5:21 PM.

The arrest occurred on Glenn View Road, approximately 2 miles north of London after Laurel 911 dispatched a complaint that a male subject had reportedly observed what he believed to be his friend's black colored chev. pickup truck that had been stolen from London on Tuesday. The truck was observed on Moren Town Road just northeast of London.

Constable Bobby Smith observed a pickup matching that description and met the vehicle on East Pittsburgh Church Road. approximately 1 mile north of London and noticed that the vehicle did not have a license plate on it. Constable Smith engaged his emergency equipment attempting a traffic stop, however the vehicle failed to stop.Constable Smith pursued the vehicle onto Slate Lick Road, turning onto Bullock Road and finally turning north on U.S. 25 (north of London).

The pickup continued North on US 25 in an extremely reckless manner almost hitting oncoming traffic. The vehicle then turned onto Glenn View Road traveling approximately 1/4 mile before losing control in a sharp curve causing a collision between the pickup truck and the constable's police cruiser.

Constable Bobby Joe Smith along with Laurel County Sheriff's deputies, assisted by London City Police officers took the suspect into custody without incident.

Joshua Caldwell was charged with Fleeing and Evading police first-degree – motor vehicle; two counts of wanton endangerment – first-degree; theft by unlawful taking – motor vehicle; careless driving; possession of drug paraphernalia; trafficking in a controlled substance – first-degree – first offense – methamphetamine; possession of a controlled substance – first-degree – first offense – methamphetamine.

The vehicle recovered – a black colored Chevrolet pickup – was a reported stolen vehicle – stolen from London the day before.

London City Police investigated that theft. A yellow colored four wheeler ATV that had been in the bed of the pickup has not been located.

In addition, this subject was a wanted individual – wanted on numerous outstanding warrants and was charged by Laurel Sheriff's Sgt. Robbie Grimes with the following charges:

A Garrard County warrant of arrest charging violation of the Kentucky EPO/DVO, a Garrard County bench warrant of arrest charging violation of conditional release regarding a charge of assault – fourth degree – domestic violence and terroristic threatening – third-degree, a Garrard County warrant of arrest charging sexual abuse – first-degree – victim under 12 years of age, a parole violation warrant regarding a conviction in Laurel Circuit Court on two charges of assault – second-degree – the parole violation warrant charged absconding parole supervision, use of controlled substance – amphetamines; failure to report to parole officer as directed,  having more than one residence at a time and failure to follow special instructions of parole officer.

This subject was lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.

Assisting for Laurel Sheriff's office were: Sgt. Robbie Grimes, Deputy Brandon Broughton, Deputy Rick Cloyd, Deputy Kyle Gray, Deputy Travis Napier, and Detective Jason Back.

Also assisting was KSP Arson investigator Pat Alford, London City Police Officers, Ambulance Inc. of Laurel County, and East Bernstadt Volunteer Fire department.
