Drug arrest at crash site off KY 490 - Laurel County

Laurel County, KY - Sheriff John Root is reporting that Sgt. Larry Parrott along with Deputy Andrew Lawson, Deputy Shawn Jackson, and Detective James Sizemore arrested Walter Garrett, age 34, of Echo Valley Rd., Lily, early Friday morning, December 18, 2015, at approximately 12:59 AM.

The arrest occurred off KY 1394 approximately 7 miles north of London after deputies conducted an investigation after a red GMC Sierra pickup truck crashed into a ditch line near Highway 490.

Deputies learned that apparently, the pickup truck had left a residence, traveled down a driveway, lost control, and traveled through 2 other persons yards, over an embankment, and struck a ditch line. Deputies located the driver back at the residence where the pickup truck originally came from and conducted an investigation on him determining that he was under the influence.

In addition, this subject was found in possession of approximately 14.7 grams of crystal methamphetamine.

Walter Garrett was charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence – first offense; leaving the scene of an accident; failure of owner to maintain required insurance – first offense; possession of marijuana; and trafficking in a controlled substance – first-degree – first offense – methamphetamine.

Also arrested there was Dustin Patterson, age 22, Of West HWY. 1376, East Bernstadt, charged with failure to appear in court on a charge of receiving stolen property under $10,000.

Both subjects were lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.
