DUI arrest in Laurel County

Laurel County, KY - Sheriff John Root is reporting that Detective Kevin Berry and along with Deputy John Inman arrested Willard Cummins, age 38, of Somerset, KY., on Tuesday afternoon, January 12, 2016, at approximately 1:09 PM.

The arrest occurred on I – 75 on the northbound entrance ramp at the KY 80 interchange in London after deputies were dispatched to a complaint of a male subject who had earlier been pumping gas into his pajamas off West KY 80 that appeared to be under the influence.

When deputies located this subject driving a white colored Hyandai Sonata, they observed this subject speeding 75 in a 55 mph and making frequent lane changes.

A traffic stop was conducted and the subject was determined to be under the influence. Willard Cummins was charged with speeding more than 20 miles over the speed limit; operating a motor vehicle under the influence – first offense ; careless driving; failure to signal; prescription controlled substances not in proper container – first offense; failure to wear seatbelts ; failure of non-owner operator to maintain required insurance – first offense; and other traffic violations and was lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.
