Serious Injury Accident – Whitley Co

(Corbin, KY) - On Thursday, January 14th, 2016, around 5 AM, Officer Mike Hamblin with KSP-Vehicle Enforcement responded to a serious injury accident located on I-75 southbound near the 24 mile marker in Whitley County, Kentucky.

Upon arrival and through investigation, Officer Hamblin determined that 27-year-old Wesley Hatfield of Pineville was traveling south, operating a 1996 Chevy Blazer, when it hit and struck the rear of a 1997 Ford tractor trailer being operated by Floyd Mitchell of Corbin.

Mitchell was not injured during the crash. Hatfield was transported by ambulance to Baptist Health in Corbin and later air lifted to the University of Kentucky Medical Center with multiple injuries.

Drugs and alcohol are not suspected as factors in the crash and Hatfield was not wearing his seat belt at the time of collision.
