Laurel County, KY - Sheriff John Root is reporting that Deputy Brandon Broughton arrested Tonya Payne age 49 Of Lake Rd., London on Thursday evening January 14, 2016 at approximately 5:18 PM.
The arrest occurred off Keller Road approximately 4 miles west of London after Deputy Broughton was dispatched to a complaint at the Dollar General store there concerning an alleged shoplifter.
When Deputy Broughton arrived at the scene and conducted an investigation he learned that this subject had apparently been observed concealing merchandise and when confronted had returned the items.
Deputy Broughton also determined that this subject was under the influence. Tonya Payne was charged with theft by unlawful taking – shoplifting and public intoxication – controlled substances and was lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.
