Drug Arrest and Investigation / Laurel County



(LONDON, KY.) – On Saturday, January 16, 2016 at approximately 8:30 PM, Trooper Ben Graves stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation on Terrell Road in Laurel County.

Upon further investigation, Trooper Graves obtained consent to search the vehicle and discovered drugs, drug paraphernalia and a large amount of cash.

The driver Michael S. McCormick, 32, of Corbin was arrested at the scene and lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center. He was charged with Operating on a Suspended License, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Trafficking in a Controlled Substance 1st Offense Methamphetamine and Trafficking in a Controlled Substance 2nd Degree 1st Offense.

Based upon information obtained during the traffic stop, Trooper Graves secured a search warrant for McCormick’s residence. On Sunday, January 17, 2016, the warrant was executed. Inside the residence Troopers located drugs, drug paraphernalia and several rounds of firearm ammunition. Troopers also recovered a leaf blower that had been reported stolen which was valued at $600.00. After the search warrant was executed, McCormick was additionally charged with Trafficking in a Controlled Substance 1st Offense (Drug Unspecified), Unlawful Possession of Meth Precursor 1st Offense, Trafficking in a Legend Drug 1st Offense, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Prescription Controlled Substance not in a Proper Container and Receiving Stolen Property.

Trooper Graves is continuing the investigation and was assisted by Troopers from Post 11.
