Sexual Abuse / Unlawful Imprisonment Investigation and Arrest / McCreary County

(LONDON, KY.) – On Wednesday, February 3, 2016 at approximately 3:23 PM, Kentucky State Police Post 11, London received a call from the McCreary County Sheriff’s Office in reference to assisting with a sexual abuse and unlawful imprisonment complaint that occurred in the parking lot of a closed business in the Whitley City Community of McCreary County.

Upon arrival, KSP Detective Billy Correll learned through an investigation that the female victim had pulled into the parking lot of a closed business and got out of her vehicle and walked to the door and discovered the business closed.

As the female victim was walking back to her vehicle, she was approached by Dewayne M. Chambers, 54, of Huntsville, TN. Chambers then allegedly grabbed the victim and attempted to pull her into his vehicle. Once the victim was partially pulled inside the vehicle she began to fight back and was able to get away and back to her car.

The victim then drove out of the parking lot and suddenly spotted McCreary County Deputy Sheriff Odell Smith and quickly told him what had happened. Deputy Smith then stopped Chambers before he could leave the area.

The victim suffered minor injuries during the attack.

Chambers was arrested at the scene and lodged in the Wayne County Detention Center. He was charged with Sexual Abuse 1st Degree and Unlawful Imprisonment 1st Degree.

KSP Detective Billy Correll is continuing the investigation and was assisted at the scene by Troopers from Post 11 and the McCreary County Sheriff’s Office.
