LSO deputies track Hit & Run suspect by his footprints in snow



Laurel County, KY - Sheriff John Root is reporting that Sgt. Brett Reeves along with Deputy Craig Sutton and Cpl. Jack Caudill arrested a Hit & Run suspect on Tuesday morning February 9, 2016 at approximately 9:40 AM.

Arrested was:

Charles Duff age 31 of Fount Hubbard Road, London, KY.

The arrest occurred off Hawk Creek Road approximately 5 miles west of London after deputies were dispatched to investigate a non-injury traffic crash involving a blue Dodge Durango which had overturned on its top there.

When deputies arrived at the scene, they learned that this subject had fled the scene of the crash on foot. Deputies canvassed the area conducting a search for this subject and tracked his footprints in the snow to a detached garage at a residence that was not his residence.

Deputies found this subject hiding underneath a vehicle inside the garage. Deputies located this subject in possession of suspected crystal methamphetamine, Xanax, hypodermic needles, and a marijuana pipe. In addition, deputies determined that this subject was under the influence.

Deputies charged Charles Duff with operating a motor vehicle under the influence – first offense; operating on suspended or revoked operators license; failure of owner to maintain required insurance – first offense; leaving the scene of an accident; burglary – third degree; possession of a controlled substance – first-degree – first offense; possession of a controlled substance third degree; and possession of drug paraphernalia.

In addition, this subject was charged with knowingly fraudulent use of ID card or electronic code for benefits – this subject was found in possession of an EBT card that was not his.

Charles Duff was lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.
