Deputies found this subject passed out behind the wheel with motor running - What he told them


Laurel County, KY - Sheriff John Root is reporting that Sgt. Larry Parrott along with Deputy Tommy Houston arrested Jason Smith age 36 of Board Walk Cir., London early Thursday morning February 11, 2016 at approximately 4:52 AM.

The arrest occurred off Lily Road, approximately 6 miles south of London after deputies were dispatched to a complaint of a male subject driving a black Chevrolet pickup that appeared to be impaired at the gas pumps at a service station there.

When deputies arrived at the scene they found this subject passed out behind the wheel with the motor running and when deputies awakened him, this subject put his truck in gear and started to drive off, but finally stopped his vehicle.

Deputies conducted an investigation and determined that this subject was under the influence – this subject stated he had been drinking cough syrup and taking Suboxone. Jason Smith was charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence – first offense; failure of owner to maintain required insurance – first offense; and numerous other traffic violations and was lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.
