Beloved Manchester business woman Laura Sandlin House passes away

Manchester, KY - Laura Sandlin House, who departed this life on February 11, 2016 at the age of 93 years old, was a virtuous woman. She was a successful business woman and blessing to her family, friends, and community.

After the death of her husband Clyde P. House, Sr., in September of 1979, she continued to operate Clyde P. House Appliance & Furniture Store and House Enterprises, which provide telecommunication services to the residents of the City of Manchester.

She also owned a factory building on Radio Hill, which has housed several companies and providing jobs for numerous clay county residents during the past 50 years. She retired from the work force in March 2007 after working for more than 70 years.

She served as a member of the Manchester City council for more than 25 years. She was a member of the Manchester Baptist Church for over 70 years. She was a generous, kind and loving sister, sister-in-law, mother, mother-in-law, and grandmother and a dearly beloved friend to many people.

She is survived by her sister, Lettie Sandlin Burns of Hamilton, Ohio, her sister-in-law Mildred Sandlin, four children: Patty House Garrison, Clyde P. House Jr., Stella House Hoop and her husband Stephen Edward Hoop, and Ruth Ann House Smith and her husband Calvin Smith, 10 grandchildren: Henry J. Garrison Jr. and his wife Donna Garrison, James Edward Garrison, Laura Melissa Garrison, Jennifer Michelle Garrison, Veronica Lynn House, Laura Nichole House, Laurel Faith House, Anne Marie House Shepherd, Eloise House Hoop, and Luci C. Smith, nine great grandchildren: Henry J. Garrison III, Jodi Rebecca Garrison Brown and her husband Darrell Brown, Kelly Jo Garrison, Kristy Garrison, Tabbitha Michelle Smith, Joe B. Smith, Brandon Garrison, Gilbert Young, Hannah Cooksey, and one great great grandchild, Henry J. Garrison IV.

She was blessed to have many loving caregivers, including Deliah Horsey, Joan Henson, Mary Jo Fisher, Christine Hoskins, Dora Nelson, Polly Boening and Robin Estep, but the family is especially grateful to five of her caregivers, who were dedicated and faithful to her to the very end: Sharon Hatfield, Karen Lawson, Stacy Perkins, her granddaughter, Veronica Lynn House and her step-granddaughter, Carrie Marie Shepherd Hubbard, who is married to Shannon J. Hubbard and has three children: Paige, Olivia, and Micah Hubbard.

She was born to the union of Jake Sandlin and Lucy Reid Sandlin on March 28, 1922, both of who preceded her in death. She was preceded in death by five brothers: Joe Sandlin, Robert Sandlin, Ford Sandlin, William Sandlin, and Bart Sandlin, and five sisters: Nancy Sandlin, Goldie Powell, Leah Woods, Catherine Walters, and Virginia Young. Her devoted and loving husband, Clyde P. House, Sr., who is the father of her four children, also preceded her in death.

Funeral service for Laura Sandlin House will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, February 14, 2016 at the Manchester Baptist Church, with Ken Bolin officiating. Burial will follow in the Manchester Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be at 6:00 PM Saturday, February 13, 2016 at the Britton Funeral Home Chapel.
