House Joint Resolution 142 Sent to Transportation Committee

FRANKFORT, Ky. (February 26, 2016) – Representative Tim Couch, R-Hyden, has filed a bill directing Kentucky’s Transportation Cabinet and Economic Development Cabinet to conduct feasibility studies on the economic impact and costs of widening the Hal Rogers Parkway into four lanes from Interstate 75 to Perry County.

“Kentucky needs to take a serious look at widening this stretch of I-75 for economic issues and safety issues, and to catch up with modern transportation demands,” said Rep. Couch. “Widening of this stretch of highway will strengthen the area’s ability to attract and retain commerce – an impact we’ve seen in other areas where this exact type of widening has already been completed.”

HJR 142 would require the study results to be reported to the Interim Joint Committees on Transportation and Economic Development and Tourism by October 31, 2016.

“We cannot afford to let this region fall further behind due to a lack of action on this important project,” added Couch.
