KSP NEWS RELEASE - Theft by Unlawful Taking Investigation and arrests / Laurel County

LONDON, KY. – Kentucky State Police Post 11, London was notified of the theft of a skid-steer loader from the Wilson Equipment Company in Corbin, on Wednesday, February 24, 2016.

Upon arrival, Trooper Millard Root learned through investigation that on Tuesday, February 23, 2016, a male subject brought a counterfeit cashier’s check in the amount of $28,750.00 to the Wilson Equipment Company and purchased a 2013 Case SR220 skid-steer valued at $30,000.00.

The next day the owner of the equipment company in Corbin was contacted by a construction company in Toledo, Ohio, and informed that three suspicious men attempted to sell them a skid-steer at a very low price. He noticed Wilson Equipment Co. logo on the side of the skid steer and called to see if it had been stolen. That’s when the owner became suspicious and contacted his bank and discovered the check was fraudulent.

Trooper Root, along with KSP Vehicle Investigations Detective Nick Metcalf, contacted the Ohio State Highway Patrol and the Toledo Police Department and advised them of the investigation. Through a joint investigation two suspects were arrested and the skid-steer was recovered.

Arrested were:

  • Andre R. Brown, 36, of Toledo, Ohio
