Two arrested with stolen vehicle on Arthur Ridge Road in Laurel County - Drugs found

Laurel County, KY - Sheriff John Root is reporting that Deputy John Inman arrested two individuals on Arthur Ridge Road approximately 7 miles north of London early Friday morning February 26, 2016 at approximately 10:33 AM.

The arrests occurred after Deputy Inman was dispatched to investigate a report of a stolen Jeep reportedly in that area.

When Deputy Inman arrived in the vicinity, he observed the reported stolen Jeep occupied by two individuals. Also other individuals were in the immediate vicinity and fled the scene on foot as Deputy Inman arrested the two individuals and conducted his investigation. Drugs and drug paraphernalia belonging to the suspects were also found in their possession.

Those individuals that fled continue to be sought by the Sheriff's office.

Arrested was:

  • The driver of the reported stolen vehicle identified as: Jody Melton age 30 of O. Johnson Road, London - Charged with theft by unlawful taking – auto, operating a motor vehicle under the influence – first offense,  possession of a controlled substance – first-degree – first offense – methamphetamine, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, prescription controlled substances not in proper container first offense, trafficking in a controlled substance – first-degree – first offense – methamphetamine and trafficking in a controlled substance first offense. Melton was found in possession off meth, Xanax, Gabapentin, a meth pipe, and a needle.
  • Charles W. Allen age 37 of Hensley Road, East Bernstadt - Charged with theft by unlawful taking – auto, possession of a controlled substance – first-degree first offense – methamphetamine, prescription controlled substances not in proper container – first offense: possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia. In addition, this subject was charged with public intoxication – controlled substances, trafficking in a controlled substance – first-degree – first offense – methamphetamine, trafficking in a controlled substance second offense, and promoting contraband – first-degree. Deputy Laurel County Jailers found this subject in possession of suspected methamphetamine as he was being lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center. Also this subject was charged with probation violation by his parole officer who assisted on the investigation after his arrest.

    Both individuals were lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.

    Additional arrests are expected as the investigation continues.

    Lieut. Greg Poynter, Deputy Shawn Boroviak, Deputy Gilbert Acciardo, Deputy Cody Faulconer, and Bailiff Brad Mink, Laurel Sheriff's detective Kevin Berry, KSP Trooper Jack Riley, Trooper Miller Root, and Investigator Brian Lewis.
