Accused shoplifter gives false name to police officer - Laurel County

Laurel County, KY - Sheriff John Root is reporting that Sgt. Larry Parrott arrested a female subject of North Hwy. 1223, Corbin, on Wednesday night, March 2, 2016, at approximately 11:23 PM.

Arrested was Verna Rose, age 32.  The arrest occurred at Walmart near Corbin in southern Laurel County after Walmart's loss prevention team detained this subject.

When Sgt. Parrott arrived at the scene, he learned that this subject had allegedly been observed opening packages and concealing merchandise and when detected, allegedly went into the women's restroom and tried to get rid of the things that she had stolen.

Total value of items taken was in excess of $126. Items taken included headphones, a battery pack, electronic cabling, an Ipad case, and a screen protector.

In addition, this subject gave Sgt. Parrott a false name and date of birth and reported that she did not know her social security number. This apparently was done to conceal her identity since there was an outstanding warrant of arrest for this subject.

Verna Rose was charged with theft by unlawful taking – shoplifting and giving an officer a false name or address. In addition, this subject was wanted on a Whitley County bench warrant of arrest for failure to appear in court regarding a charge of trafficking in a controlled substance – first-degree – first offense.

Verna Rose was lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center. Photo attached is courtesy of the Laurel County Detention Center.
