UPDATE: LSO arrest two individuals at Corbin Vendors Mall

Laurel County, KY - Sheriff John Root is reporting that Deputy Brandon Broughton along with Deputy Kyle Gray arrested two individuals at Vendors Mall on US 25E, approx. 10 miles south of London, on Tuesday evening March 8, 2016 at approximately 5:02 PM.

The arrests occurred after deputies were dispatched to a complaint that a male and female subject were inside the store shoplifting. When deputies arrived at the scene, they observed the male subject putting merchandise in his pockets. Deputies conducted an investigation finding a kitchen knife in this subjects front pocket and several syringes that this subject advised he had used to shoot up meth. In addition, the subject stated that he had driven to the store after using narcotic drugs. This subject was determined to be under the influence.

Arrested was Anthony Root, age 42, of Corbin, charged with theft by unlawful taking – shoplifting; public intoxication – controlled substances; carrying a concealed weapon; and possession of drug paraphernalia. Also, this subject was wanted on a Laurel County bench warrant of arrest for failure to appear in court regarding a charge of theft by unlawful taking – shoplifting.

An investigation conducted on the female subject determined that she was under the influence. Arrested was Joanna Harris, age 38, also of Corbin, charged with public intoxication – controlled substances and possession of drug paraphernalia. This subject was found in possession of several syringes. In addition, this subject stated that she had taken Suboxone and prescribed medication prior to going to vendors mall.

Update:

On Wednesday, March 9, 2016, at approximately 10:08 AM, Deputy Josh Scott arrested Anthony Root, age 42, of Hopewell Rd., Corbin, charging him with robbery – first-degree.

This arrest was the result of an investigation conducted by Deputy Scott regarding a shoplifting that allegedly occurred at a business on US 25E, where a pistol was displayed in a threatening manner while this subject allegedly took a vapor cigarette from the business there.

The incident occurred on February 28, 2016, at approx 11:45 A.M. Information was developed on the suspect's identity, and this subject was formally charged while incarcerated on an unrelated shoplifting incident that occurred at another business nearby.

This subject remains lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.
