Complaint of subject passed out in vehicle leads to arrest and various charges in Laurel County


Laurel County, KY - Sheriff John Root is reporting that Deputy Jamie Grimes along with Cpl. Jack Caudill arrested a female subject of Spruce Creek, London, on Friday night, March 11, 2016, at approximately 10:43 PM.

Arrested was Melissa Vanover, age 27.  The arrest occurred off South Stewart Road, approximately 10 miles south of London after deputies were dispatched to a complaint of a subject passed out in a vehicle.

When deputies arrived at the scene, they located this subject passed out inside a vehicle and after approximately 3 minutes were able to awaken this subject. An investigation was conducted and this subject was determined to be under the influence.

Melissa Vanover was charged with public intoxication – controlled substances and was lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center. While being booked and processed in the jail, this subject was found in possession of a small baggie of a white crystal substance believed to be crystal meth, three used hypodermic needles, and six Xanax bars concealed in her underwear.

Deputies filed additional charges of possession of a controlled substance – first-degree – first offense – methamphetamine; possession of a controlled sub/second-degree – barbiturate; and possession of drug paraphernalia.
