Hit and run DUI crash on East Cumberland Gap Parkway


Laurel County, KY - Sheriff John Root is reporting that Lieut. Greg Poynter along with Sgt. Robbie Grimes arrested a male subject of Robert E Cox Rd., Corbin, on Tuesday afternoon, March 15, 2016, at approximately 4:32 PM.

Arrested was William Walker, age 64.  The arrest occurred off East Cumberland Gap Pkwy., approximately 13 miles south of London after deputies investigated a traffic crash which occurred on East Cumberland Gap Pkwy. where this subject who was driving a green Ford Ranger allegedly struck another vehicle in the rear.

The driver got out of the vehicle and spoke with other persons involved in the crash, then returned to his vehicle and drove away. Deputies were able to locate the suspect vehicle in the vicinity observing that the suspect vehicle had heavy front end damage and conducted an investigation determining that the vehicle they located was the involved hit and run vehicle.

Deputies also detected the odor of alcoholic beverages emitting from the driver and conducted an investigation on the driver and determined that he was under the influence. The hit and run driver stated that he fled because he knew he had been drinking and knew he was in trouble.

William Walker was charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence – first offense; leaving the scene of an accident; failure to wear seatbelts; improper equipment; and failure to signal.
