Laurel County, KY - Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Deputy Rick Cloyd along with Sgt. Robbie Grimes conducted a traffic stop on a green colored Chevrolet Cobalt for a seat belt violation on Saturday night March 19, 2016 at approximately 7:45 P.M.
Arrested was:
Terry Stephens age 42 of Campbell Road, Corbin, KY.
The arrest occurred on Beatty Avenue, approximately 11 miles south of London.
During the investigation deputies determined that this subject was operating on a suspended license and could not verify his identity. The Social Security number he gave deputies came back to a female subject.
This subject told deputies his wallet containing his identity info had been stolen, however deputies found the subject did in fact have his wallet with him. Apparently, this subject was being evasive because he had numerous outstanding warrants.
Terry Stephens was charged with Failure to Wear Seat Belts, Failure to Produce Insurance Card, Operating on DUI Suspended License, and Giving an Officer a False Name or Address.
In addition, this subject was charged on a Laurel County bench warrant of arrest for Failure to Appear in Court regarding numerous traffic violations, a Laurel County bench warrant of arrest for Failure to Appear in Court regarding charges of Public Intoxication – controlled substances and prescription controlled substances not in proper container – first offense, a Whitley County bench warrant of arrest for Failure to Appear in Court on numerous traffic violations, a Laurel County bench warrant of arrest for Failure to Appear in Court on charges of Operating a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence- second offense, a Laurel County bench warrant of arrest for Failure to appear in court on charges of Operating on DUI Suspended License – first offense, and a Knox County bench warrant of arrest for Failure to Appear in court regarding charges of Operating a Suspended or Revoked Operator's License.
This subject had a total of 6 outstanding Bench Warrants of Arrest in three counties.
Terry Stephens was lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.
