National Weather Service Issues Red Flag Warning

FRANKFORT, KY (March 22, 2016) – Due to the risk of high fire danger this afternoon and evening, the National Weather Service in Jackson, KY has issued a Red Flag Warning for today (Tuesday) from 11 AM to 9 PM EDT. The Red Flag Warning is in effect for most of Eastern and Central Kentucky.

A weather system over the Plains will strengthen, causing strong and gusty winds throughout most of Tuesday. Dry conditions and these winds pose an elevated fire hazard risk. Kentucky Emergency Management (KYEM) strongly encourages everyone to be careful during all outdoor activities and avoid the use of fire.

It is illegal to burn anything within 150 feet of any woodland or brush land between the hours of 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM. KYEM is providing additional situational awareness to Cabinet partners and local officials and is available to offer support to local emergency management officials if requested.

Additional information and local weather conditions can be found at http://www.weather.gov/jkl/ .
