LSO deputy assaulted


Laurel County, KY - Sheriff John Root is reporting that Sgt. Brett Reeves arrested a male subject of Auger Springs Road, Keavy, on Wednesday morning, March 30, 2016, at approximately 8:19 AM.

Arrested was Calvin Mitchell, age 45.  The arrest occurred off US 25 in a business parking lot approximately 8 miles south of London after deputies were dispatched to a complaint of a male subject allegedly passed out in a vehicle.

When Sgt. Reeves arrived at the scene, he located a male subject passed out in a silver Toyota Tacoma pickup with the engine running. Sgt. Reeves attempted to awaken the driver, however he had to open the driver's door to awaken the driver.

The driver refused to cooperate with Sgt. Reeves and became irate, began creating a disturbance at the scene, and cursing Sgt. Reeves. The driver had to be physically removed from the vehicle and when he did, he began struggling with Sgt. Reeves, before being taken into custody.

During the struggle a pill bottle was found in the subject's possession containing a clear crystal substance believed to be methamphetamine.

Calvin Mitchell was charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence – first offense; disorderly conduct – second degree; resisting arrest; possession of a controlled substance – first-degree – first offense; menacing; and assault third-degree – police officer is the victim.
