Child struck by vehicle in Harlan County

(Harlan, Ky.) – On April 17, 2016, at 4:54 p.m. Kentucky State Police, Post 10 received a call about a vehicle striking an 11 year old child on an electric scooter. It occurred on Sally Rachel Lane in the Cobalt Estates subdivision in Harlan County.

Preliminary investigations indicates that Henrietta Hensley, 67, of Wallins was operating a Chrysler vehicle east on Sally Rachel Lane when she struck the 11 year old child that was riding an electric scooter. The collision occurred in the center of the roadway.

The 11 year old child was taken to Harlan ARH and then flown out to UK Medical Center for injuries due to the collision. The child is listed in critical condition at this time. Mrs. Hensley didn’t receive any injuries from the collision.

The collision is still under investigation by Master Trooper Michael Cornett. He was assisted at the scene by Tpr. Jake Spurlock and Tpr. Justin Barton.
