Subject arrested by LSO at judicial center

Laurel County, KY - Sheriff John Root is reporting that Deputy Kyle Gray along with court security officer Paul Collins, CSO Jamie Etherton, and CSO Brandon McCoy arrested a male subject of KY 1232, Corbin, on Friday morning, May 6, 2016, at approximately 11:26 AM.

Arrested was Gregory Engle, age 37.  The arrest occurred at the Laurel County Judicial Center in London after this subject attempted to enter the judicial center through the security check point at the front doors and court security officers observed three syringes on this subject's person and located 10 Suboxone strips.

When this subject was told to step through the scanner to be checked, this subject reported that he wasn't going to because he needed to make a phone call. This subject then turned facing the doors and attempted to run from the building.

CSO Paul Collins was able to chase this subject and following a short scuffle, this subject was taken into custody. Following an investigation, this subject was determined to be under the influence – he admitted he had smoked meth earlier before coming to the judicial center for traffic court.

Gregory Engle was charged with public intoxication – controlled substances; disorderly conduct – second degree; possession of drug paraphernalia; possession of a controlled substance – second degree; fleeing or evading police – second degree – on foot; resisting arrest; and menacing.

Gregory Engle was lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center. Photo attached is courtesy of the Laurel County Detention Center.
