Driving with one headlamp lands man in jail on various charges in Laurel County


Laurel County, KY - Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Deputy Shawn Jackson arrested a Corbin man early Saturday morning May 14, 2016 at approximately 1:36 AM. 

Arrested was John Culton age 28 of North 1223, Corbin, KY.

The arrest occurred on West Cumberland Gap Pkwy., approximately 11 miles up the London after Deputy Jackson observed a maroon colored Ford Escape with one headlamp and conducted a traffic stop on that vehicle.

Upon walking up to the vehicle, Deputy Jackson noted the driver did not have a seatbelt on. In addition, a strong odor of marijuana was emitting from inside the vehicle. The subject stated he had been smoking marijuana in the vehicle just prior to being stopped. In addition, this subject stated that he had some marijuana inside the vehicle and told deputies where they could find it.

Deputies also located a glass pipe used for smoking marijuana and rolling papers. Deputy Jackson conducted an investigation on the driver determining that he was under the influence.

John Culton was charged with one headlight; failure to wear seatbelts; possession of marijuana; possession of drug paraphernalia; and operating a motor vehicle under the influence – first offense.

This subject was lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.
