Two students taken into custody by LSO on Terroristic Threatening charges involving Instagram

Laurel County, KY - Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Laurel Sheriff's Detective Kevin Berry and Detective James Sizemore along with London Police Department school resource officer Ryan Jackson conducted an investigation involving two male juvenile students.

One of the suspects is a student at South Laurel middle school and the other a student at South Laurel High School - allegedly involved in sending a list of threatening messages from Instagram to a male juvenile who is a student at North Laurel Middle school. The investigation indicated that the messages involved several threats and served no legitimate purpose.

In addition, deputies along with administrators of the school system learned that the screen name of the suspects involved had wording referencing Columbine which raised concerns by officials.

The two juveniles, ages 14 and 15, were taken into custody by sheriff's deputies and following additional investigation by the CDW (court designated worker), both were transported by Laurel County deputies to the juvenile detention facility in Breathitt County.  

A detention hearing will be held in Laurel County on Tuesday, May 24, 2016.

Both are charged with harassing communications and terroristic threatening – third-degree.
