(Crab Orchard, KY) — The Kentucky State Police, Richmond Post, is investigating a fatal collision that happened on KY-39 South in Lincoln County at approximately 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 21, 2016.
The initial investigation indicates that Derrick Smith, 28 years old of Lancaster, was driving south on KY-39 S in a 2002 GMC Yukon. Smith lost control of the vehicle, and struck a tree after leaving the roadway. The passenger, Lindsey Moore, 33 years of Lancaster, sustained fatal injuries in the collision and was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Lincoln County Coroner. Smith was transported to Ephraim McDowell Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The ongoing investigation is being conducted by KSP Trooper Joshua Chenault.
