UPDATE DETAILS / KSP Investigates Officer Involved Shooting in Madison County


(Berea, KY) — The Kentucky State Police, Richmond Post, is continuing the investigation of an officer involved shooting that injured a Madison County Deputy and left the suspected shooter dead.

The initial investigation indicates that Deputy Kevin Crutcher, a nine year member of the Madison County Sheriff’s Department, attempted to stop a Ford F-150 truck on Arthur Jackson Road just before 1:50 pm today. The vehicle pulled into a driveway at 103 Arthur Jackson Road, and the driver, Daniel Pigg, 51 years old of Berea, exited the vehicle and started walking toward the front door. Pigg ignored verbal commands and began shooting toward the deputy after pulling out a handgun. Deputy Crutcher was injured by one of the gunshots and returned gunfire, fatally striking Daniel Pigg.

Daniel Pigg was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Madison County Coroner.

Deputy Crutcher was treated for a gunshot wound to the abdomen and has been released from the University of Kentucky Hospital.

The ongoing investigation is being conducted by KSP Sergeant Chris Short. He was assisted at the scene by KSP Personnel, Madison County Sheriff’s Office, Madison County EMS, and the Madison County Coroner.

(Berea, KY) — The Kentucky State Police, Richmond Post, is investigating an officer involved shooting that occurred on Arthur Jackson Road just before 1:52 pm this afternoon.

A Madison County Deputy was shot during the exchange of gunfire and has been transported to the University of Kentucky Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The alleged shooter has been pronounced deceased at the scene by the Madison County Coroner.

The ongoing investigation is being conducted by the Kentucky State Police, Richmond Post.
