London, KY (June 13, 2016) - On Saturday, June 11, 2016 at approximately 3:15 PM, KSP Post 11 received a report of a two-person fatality involving an ATV on US 27 South in the Pine Knot community of McCreary County.
Upon arrival, Troopers Dackery Larkey and Tony Duncan learned unit #1, a Honda ATV operated by Tony Dewayne Myers, 43, of Helenwood, TN was traveling eastbound on Cal Hill Spur Road when it entered the intersection with US 27 into the path of unit #2 a 2004 Chevrolet pickup truck operated by John Chitwood, 72, of Whitley City, KY.
Both operator and passenger were ejected from the ATV onto the roadway. The ATV operator, Tony D. Myers, was pronounced deceased at the scene and the ATV passenger, Geneva J. Ridener, 45, of Whitley City, KY was transported to the Pioneer Community Hospital in Oneida, TN where she was pronounced deceased. No helmets were in use by the operator or the passenger.
The operator of the truck, John Chitwood, was transported to the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset, KY for treatment of minor injuries.
Alcohol usage is suspected as a contributing factor in the crash.
Trooper Duncan continues the investigation and was assisted by Trooper Dackery Larkey, Sergeant Tony Dingess, the McCreary County Sheriff’s Department, the McCreary County EMS, the McCreary County Coroner’s Office and the Pine Knot Fire Department.
