House Republican Leader Jeff Hoover on State Takeover of Bluegrass Area Development District Services

FRANKFORT, Ky. (June 21, 2016) – “Following gross misuse of $187,000 in state funds, with zero intention to repay Kentucky taxpayers, Governor Bevin’s decision to direct a state takeover of aging and independent living services provided by the Bluegrass Area Development District (BGADD) is the right move.

“Rather than provide 17,046 meals to seniors, or 9,294 hours of homemaking assistance, or 7,480 hours of personal care, BGADD management opted to give select employees $187,000 worth of tax-payer funded bonuses. Kentucky’s aging residents deserve better.

“Throughout this necessary transition, it is important to remember that no services will be lost to consumers. And the elderly who use programs such as Meals on Wheels will no longer take a back seat to bad management.”
