Stabbing in Knox County


Cranes Nest, Ky. - On Sunday, July 10th at approximately 1:00 p.m. Kentucky State Police, Post 10 Harlan was notified of a stabbing by Trooper John Pratt from KSP Post 11 London. The stabbing had taken place somewhere along Ky 1803 in Knox County, approximately 1 mile from the Laurel County line.

The victims drove to 1360 Black Water road in Laurel County after the stabbing occurred. Tpr. Wayne Hensley and Tpr. Frank Russell responded to the scene in Laurel County.

The victims, Connie Smith, 52, of London and Randy Smith, 49, of London were flown to UK Medical Center with life threatening injuries prior to the troopers arriving. Detective Bryan Johnson, Det. Jake Wilson and Sgt. Jason Joseph also responded to the scene.

During the course of the investigation, Joe Gibson 35, of London was identified as a suspect. Mr. Gibson is the son of Connie Smith and step son of Randy Smith. Det. Bryan Johnson charged Mr. Gibson with two counts of attempted murder. Mr. Gibson was lodged in the Knox County Detention Center.
