Four teenagers transported to hospital after crash on Tomcat Trail in Laurel County

Laurel County, KY - Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Deputy Shawn Jackson investigated a single vehicle multiple injury traffic crash which occurred on Tomcat trail, approximately 5 miles east of London on Wednesday, July 13, 2016.

The investigating deputy reports that apparently a 2003 Ford Explorer was traveling westbound on Tomcat Trail. The driver stated that she was fixing her hair and the female in the passenger seat was holding the steering wheel, steering the vehicle and that she was going about 65 mph and started to negotiate a sharp right-hand curve with a suggested speed for the curve as 15 mph.

While trying to negotiate the curve the vehicle crossed the centerline into the oncoming lane – the driver then grabbed the steering wheel from the passenger over correcting to the right and the vehicle left the roadway striking an earth embankment, traveling 75 feet before striking another embankment ditch, causing the vehicle to overturn upside down.

All occupants of the vehicle were transported to St. Joseph Hospital by Ambulance Inc. Laurel County. The driver was identified as a 17-year-old female juvenile from Oak Ridge Church Rd., Corbin. There were three other teenage occupants in the vehicle.

Bush Volunteer Fire department assisted at the scene.
