Fatal Crash KY 92E - Whitley County


Williamsburg , Ky. (July 28, 2016) On Thursday July 28th 2016 around 11 A.M officer Tyler Teaney with KSP Vehicle Enforcement responded to a fatal commercial vehicle crash located on KY 92 east near the 22 mile marker in Whitley Co. Kentucky.

Upon arrival and through investigation officer Teaney found 59 year old James Gambrel of Woolum, Kentucky traveling east bound on KY 92 when he crossed the center line, leaving the roadway and coming to rest over a small embankment. A small amount of the vehicles load of 43,000 tons of coal did spill in the incident.

Gambrel was pronounced dead on scene. Drugs or alcohol are not suspected in the crash, however rain covered roads and medical conditions may have been factors. Gambrel was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the accident.

KY 92 east was shut down for several house while clean- up crews worked to clean debris and coal from the area.

Assisting on scene: CVE Officer Chris McQueen and Keegan Bray. Whitley Co. Sheriff’s Department, Whitley Co EMS, and Whitley Co. Coroner’s office. Officer Tyler Teaney continues the investigation.
