9/11: 15 Years Later

U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell

‘This is a day to remember and honor the victims of September the 11th, and pray for their families. [We] express our gratitude to the many Americans who, in the fifteen years gone by, have fought to keep us safe. They fight for our freedom. And freedom is what keeps America the greatest country on earth.’

LOUISVILLE, KY – U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has released the following message regarding the 15th anniversary of 9/11:

“September the 11th is no ordinary day on the calendar. On this date fifteen years ago, Al Qaeda terrorists launched brutal and vicious attacks against our country. Ordinary passenger planes became weapons of war, used to split rock and steel. Thousands were killed, and our country was forever changed.

“Today, America remembers not only the horror of those attacks, but the heroism in our response. We saw fire fighters, police officers and first responders rushing into burning buildings as most rushed out. We saw the men and women of our fighting forces stand eager to defend our country. And we saw Americans across the land working together in a spirit of unity.

“Fifteen years later, it is clear that the terrorists did not succeed. This is a day to remember and honor the victims of September the 11th, and pray for their families. We must also express our gratitude to the many Americans who, in the fifteen years gone by, have fought to keep us safe. They fight for our freedom. And freedom is what keeps America the greatest country on earth.”
