Obituary for Helen Grubb

Helen Grubb, age 93, of Manchester went to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 8th, 2018. She was born Wednesday, March 25, 1925 at Bright Shade, Kentucky to Roy Grubb and Flora Smith Grubb. She was the second oldest of eight children. Being the oldest Daughter, Helen helped her Mother with the other children.

When her Parents died in their 50s, Helen became the guardian of her younger sister, Wanda Ruth, who was deaf and mute. Helen cared for her for over 50 years before Wanda Ruth passed away.

Helen was a homemaker and Mother to three children, Delbert Grubb, Vernice Messer and Lowell Grubb. Helen loved to work in her garden, work in her Church, cook for her family, and help care for people in her community. She was a member of Mill Creek Methodist and later attended Hubbard Missionary Baptist Church with her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Flora Grubb. Her son, Delbert Grubb, one daughter-in-law, Colleen Grubb, and the following brothers and sisters: Quinton Grubb, Opha Smith, Forster Grubb, Margaret Swafford, Mary Jane Mills, Kathleen Mills, and Wanda Ruth Grubb.

She leaves to mourn her passing her children: Vernice Messer and husband, Leighman, Lowell Grubb and wife, Patricia. Her grandchildren: Michelle Howard and husband, Dean, Todd Messer and wife, Amanda, Crystal Messer-McQueen and husband, Travis, Courtney Hoskins and husband, Jeremy. Her Great-Grandchildren: Colby and Landon Howard, Aubrie and Lexi Messer, Kaiden and Lucas McQueen, and Madilynn Grubb. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews and friends to mourn her passing.

Helen’s favorite song says, “Come morning I'll walk by the river, I'll rest neath the evergreen tree, so I'll carry my cross through the midnight, come morning there's glory for me.” By her faith, she made that walk Thursday night and received her eternal reward. She will be greatly missed but we find comfort in knowing she is happy and rejoicing in Heaven with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She will suffer no more pain, sickness, or sadness but instead will live forever in a land of one glorious day.

A celebration of life for Helen will be conducted on Monday, November 12, 2018 at 1:00 PM at the Rominger Funeral Home Chapel. Nathaniel Messer, Golden Smith and Leighman Messer will be presiding. She will be laid to rest in the Manchester Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends and loved ones on Sunday evening after 6:00 PM at the Rominger Funeral Home Chapel.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Rominger Funeral Home.
