Ms. Martha Avis Sparks

Martha Avis Woods Sparks born to Henry Woods Sr. and Drucilla Napier on April 7, 1926, departed this life on November 27,2012, being 86 years old at her passing.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Fred Theo Sparks, two children, Freddie Lee and Henry Joe, two great grandchildren, Dylan Rodney Chase Sally and Teddy Michael Bailey, Daughter-in-law, Joyce Ann Sparks, brothers, Hamlin, Wille, Pearl, Junior, Robert and Joe and one sister Mary Dalton.

She is survived by one son, Jerry Lynn and Lois Sparks, of Hyden, Ky and one daughter, Rose Cilla and John Bailey, of Bear Branch, Ky, and these grandchildren: Freddie Lynn Revis of London, Ky, Kristin Lynn Sally, of Piedmont South Carolina, Deena and Cory Asher, of Hyden Ky, Jenny Smith, of Lexington, Ky, Billy Bailey, of Pineville, Ky, Danielle and Brandon Bright, of Timberville, Virginia, Rob and Jenna Lewis, of Hazard, Ky, Annette Turner, of Wallins Ky, Shalena Gail and Paul Jarvis, of Sizerock, Ky.

She is also survived by these great grandchildren: Alexis Nishae Sally, Morgan Lynn Faith Sally, Cory Mason Asher, Rebecca Asher, Addison Rose Hughes, Grayson John Bright, Abby Lewis, Kali Lewis, Brittany Turner, Jennifer Turner, Willie Dean Turner, and Nichols Turner, great great grandchildren: Nathan Turner and Michael Turner, one sister, Elizabeth Day, of Jamestown, Indiana, one brother, George Woods and Grace, of Bear Branch, Ky, and her care giver, Linda Sizemore.

Avis was a retired school teacher and principal (1st woman principal in Leslie County) Sunday School Teacher, Treasurer, Clerk, and Member of Big Creek Baptist Church. She enjoyed working with children, needlepoint, crocheting and quilting.

Funeral services for Avis Sparks will be 12 Noon Friday at the Britton Funeral Home chapel with Rollin Bradshaw, Wayne Bowling, and mark Back officiating. Interment will follow in the Wiggington Cemetery at London.

Visitation will be after 6 p.m. Thursday at the Britton Funeral Home.
