Mrs. Willa Jean Sawyers

Willa Jean (Campbell) Sawyers was born to the union of George Washington Campbell and Cinda Lou (Hensley) Campbell on January 28, 1928 at Crane Creek, KY. She went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, December 30th 2014. She was 86 years of age.

She was a "very active" member of the Liberty United Baptist Church at Laurel Creek, where she served as Sunday School Teacher, then Clerk and treasurer for many years of both the Sunday School and Church. She was also a member of the Church Choir. She retired from the Clay County Board of Education in 1990 in order to care for her husband. She worked in text book depositry, then teachers aide until retirement.

"Granny Jean", as she was referred to, is survived by one son, Reuben Edward Sawyers II and his wife Diane, of Manchester.

She is also survived by one grand-son, Reuben Edward "Ed" Sawyers III and wife Kathy of Scottsdale, AZ. Two great-grand daughters, Paige and Peyton Sawyers of Gilbert, AZ.

After the death of her brother, Raleigh Campbell, she raised his three children as her own: P.J. Campbell, Robert George "Bob" Campbell and Johnny Campbell.

She was "Granny Jean" to Cindy La'Rae Robinson Whitehead and Paul Thomas "Tommy" Robinson, and great granny to her precious little angels, Dorian Lane & Adrian Thomas Whitehead.

She is also survived by a very special cousin and life-long friend, Ruby Samples, and a host of other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her older sister, Lucinda Mae Campbell and her brother Raleigh Campbell, her husband and soul mate of 44 years, Reuben E. Sawyers, one nephew, Johnny Campbell and one great nephew, Jason Wayne Campbell.

Jean loved her family, her quiet times at home and her quilt making, but most of all she loved her Lord, her Church and her Church work.

She will be sadly missed by her family and her many friends but will be welcomed into her Heavenly home by her Lord and her family gone on before her.

Funeral Services for Willa Jean (Campbell) Sawyers will be held 1 PM Friday, January 2nd 2015 at the Britton Funeral Home Chapel with Chris Roberts officiating. Burial will follow in the Brown Mission Cemetery at Laurel Creek. Visitation will be after 6 PM Thursday at the Britton Funeral Home Chapel.
